Description
Vapeology Nic Salt Shot
The Vapeology Nicotine Salt Shot is a 10ml bottle of unflavoured 20mg nicotine salt e-liquid designed to be added to shortfill e-liquids so you can set your own nicotine strength. One 10ml shot added to a 50ml shortfill gives you 60ml of e-liquid at approximately 3mg – the most common strength vapers mix to. It uses nicotine salts rather than freebase nicotine, which gives a smoother throat hit at the 20mg concentration and faster absorption than an equivalent freebase shot.
It is unflavoured so it will not affect the taste of whichever shortfill you mix it into. TPD compliant, sold in a childproof, tamper-evident 10ml bottle.
What Is a Nicotine Salt Shot?
A nicotine salt shot is a 10ml bottle of high-strength unflavoured nicotine base that you add to a shortfill e-liquid. Shortfills are larger bottles of nicotine-free e-liquid – 50ml, 100ml or 200ml – that are deliberately under-filled to leave room for one or more nic shots. Because they contain no nicotine, shortfills are not subject to the same TPD volume restrictions as nicotine-containing e-liquids, which is why they can be sold in larger sizes. The nic shot is the 10ml TPD-compliant nicotine component you add yourself to bring the finished bottle to your preferred strength.
Nic salt shots use nicotine salts, where a small amount of acid is added to freebase nicotine to lower its pH. The practical effect is a significantly smoother throat hit, even at 20mg, compared to freebase nicotine at the same strength. This makes nic salt shots a natural choice for vapers who have switched from disposable vapes or pre-filled pod kits – both of which use 20mg nic salts as standard – and want to replicate that smooth delivery in a shortfill setup.
Nic Salt Shot vs Freebase Nic Shot
Both types of nicotine shot add nicotine to a shortfill, but they feel different to vape once mixed.
- A nic salt shot (20mg) gives a smoother, faster-absorbing hit. At 3mg in a finished mix the smoothness is less obvious, but at higher mixed strengths – or if you are sensitive to throat hit – the difference is noticeable. Suits vapers coming from disposable vapes, pod kits or nic salt 10ml bottles.
- A freebase nic shot (typically 18mg) gives a stronger, more pronounced throat hit at equivalent strengths. Suits vapers already used to freebase e-liquids at 3mg or above who are happy with the throat sensation.
- The higher base strength of the 20mg salt shot (vs the 18mg standard for freebase shots) means a marginally higher nicotine level in the finished mix. See the table below.
Mixing Guide
The table below covers the most common mixing ratios using the Vapeology 20mg Nicotine Salt Shot. All figures assume a full 10ml shot per addition. Nicotine strength figures are approximate.

If you want a lighter strength, use a partial shot. Half a 10ml bottle into a 50ml shortfill gives approximately 1.6mg. The flavour of your shortfill will not be affected as this shot is unflavoured.
How to Mix
Remove the cap and nib from your shortfill bottle. Open the nicotine shot and squeeze the full contents into the shortfill. Replace the nib and cap firmly and shake for at least two minutes to distribute the nicotine evenly through the e-liquid. Uneven mixing can result in inconsistent nicotine strength across the bottle, so do not skip the shaking step. You can vape immediately after mixing, or leave the bottle to steep for a day or two in a cool, dark place to let the flavours settle. Wash your hands thoroughly if any liquid contacts your skin. Store all nicotine-containing products away from children and pets.
